7/29/24 Update

Here’s an ops of Fruda’s tutorial - transposed down from DbM to Bm. Found a cool feature in Logic which does this - could be very helpful when we are attempting the high wire versions.

Because in Bm

5/3/24

  • Exciting that things are coming together so quickly. We have a good set for Doughty’s and some good contenders in the wings for June rehearsal.

  • Talked to someone yesterday who is planning to ask Julie if they can plant their chairs a few days early (ala Clam Festival)

  • Herb is in final negotiations with someone for a cameo support role. Stay tuned.

  • Should have the Shed ready for next Thursday’s rehearsal. Planning to have plenty of mics set up so we can practice blending. Also, will keep set up static in shed to save time. Road gear hangin on wall ready for deployment

    • Later on, will set up some simple recording interface so we can capture whatever.

  • Yesterday we discussed that With A Little Help From My Friends might be a better closer. Good sing along, minimal harmony. Probably easier to tune up than Weight.

  • Calender - shared - Looked at Google but, since they want to sell all your info, I’ve set up an iCal. You don’t have to have iPhone to view but I think most do.Invites have been sent to all- ck your spam filter. There is also a public link which non-iOS devices can use.

    • You will have edit privileges so you can add when you are “OUT” . Hopefully, it allows us to spend less time organizing and more time making music !

      • Erika and John Wilson are linked in

  • Click here for 5/3/24 song list (sorted by Artist)

  • Here’s some tabs - I’ve tried to note the actual key as most I play with Capo

3/11/24 update - well Spring is happening and we’ve had some winter musical fun talking about and working on new songs. We didn’t get to record but, that can always be in the future.(see below)

We talked about how many dates to attempt and landed on 6. Doughty’s initially thought 3 but dropped July 4th (sounds like plenty of other music in play including The Slowbell). Less than last year but enough to have fun and simplify the short season. And we can always just play some music without any intention of performance.

New faces

Herb Maine has officially retired from work so we’re going to put him to work. His jazz group has a pretty full schedule but he’s willing to jump in, when available. Will be terrific to have a stand up bass and he can also pitch in on the keyboard!

Cheryl Stevens has agreed to help help work sound. You may not know that she spent a lot of time doing sound with bands - in an earlier life.

Brother Pete will be around some and can help out on the Cajon with percussion

Ben Emery will also be around to help with his Logic Pro recording chops. (Shed will have the capability

Shed - will have permanent mic set up. Road Gear hanging up in a corner for rapid deployment. Also big screen for tab presentation at rehearsal.

OnSong (click the link) - Happy to help anyone get it on your iPad. It really is a great way to save time and - keep us all on the same page. Tabs can be shared which is really nice

New Songs I know I missed some stuff so please let me know. Particularly the new contenders that were worked on

  • Rocking Chair The Band. JW, JH and Chip have been working on vocals. Chip on guitar and maybe Herb can play bass (nice lively part).

  • Woodstock - trying to meld the Joni and James Taylor and CSNY version. Still working on it but no rush.

  • Keep Your Heart Young (Brandi Carlisle) - Erica sings great and we’ve got some back up harmony

  • Songbird - Erika, JH on piano and Chip guitar

  • Little Help From My Friends - ensemble with JH piano, Chip bass

  • Eight Days a Week - ensemble with Charles guitar, Chip bass (Herb may want to do this which would allow two guitars which would help

  • Good Times (Sam Cook)

Underneath the calendar below there some previously considered songs and Youtube links.

Song List -This is about 55 songs that we have played

Doughty’s (see 2023 Set List below calendar)- . Looks like similar format to last year but will find single stage set up. Dana and Friends, Josh/Herb and Mark/Chuck. So, it should be a real nice island event.
